Eugene’s Surprise Proposal at Stonington Point

In the Mystic area of southeastern Connecticut, Mystic proper tends to steal the spotlight. People love it, and for good reason. But there’s another spot that deserves more attention than it gets: Stonington Point at the end of the Borough.

Yes, the village of Mystic is partially in Stonington, which is also known for its vineyards. But the borough and point are great. My client, Eugene, saw it that way as well. He reached out to me with a plan to propose to Chihiro at Stonington Point. Here’s how he managed a beautiful proposal at Dubois Beach before their Stonington Point engagement session.

A Dubois Beach Proposal

Residents of New York City, Chihiro and Eugene are young professionals who enjoy getting out of the city to visit Connecticut from time to time (their story also involves Yale beginnings). That was the perfect cover for him to get her to Stonington Borough for a weekend.

When I helped him plan his proposal, Eugene asked me to wait for him and Chihiro at Dubois Beach. The vantage point was great; Eugene remarked after the session that he was glad he didn’t try to photograph the proposal himself. I loved that the engagement ring box was the same color as Chihiro’s dress; a great detail.

Engagement Session at Stonington Point

Eugene and Chihiro’s Stonington Point engagement session presented me with a interesting challenge. He made it clear that he preferred to stay near the point because he made dinner reservations for later. This was no problem!

Getting creative is something I love to do. What’s more, Stonington Point (and middle Water Street) has a lot to offer.

Visiting Stonington Lighthouse Museum

Right next to Dubois Beach, also at the point, is the Stonington Lighthouse Museum. This retired lighthouse is a little different from others in southeastern Connecticut. Undoubtedly, though, it’s uniqueness makes it a great backdrop for couple’s portraits.

And you know we had to practice for Chihiro and Eugene’s wedding day to end this engagement session.
