A couple holds hands and walks up a hill with the downtown Hartford skyline behind them during their Wickham Park engagement session.

Connecticut in the fall is a time for happiness. Megan and Robbie saw it this way, asking me to help them get some photos with the foliage before their winter wedding day. Their Wickham Park engagement session definitely fit the bill.

Their Engagement Session at Wickham Park

Wickham Park is in Manchester, just west of the intersection of I-291 and I-84 (a few exits from Hartford). Route 44 also runs right along side it and Route 5 isn’t far away, making it easy to get to within Connecticut. This made it a very convenient choice for Megan and Robbie’s session; my drive up from the Mystic area was easy.

I actually met Megan and Robbie through another one of my couples, Hayley and Brendon. The latter couple brought me along for both their UConn engagement session and wedding at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills. Word got around, I suppose, so Megan and Robbie wanted in on the fun.

Megan grew up in Pennsylvania while Robbie is a Connecticut native. They’re a laid back pair who loves to stay active, having basically had their first date at a CrossFit gym. In addition to their respective colleges, these two also really love football and wanted to incorporate that into their session. They rep’d their respective teams with pride!

Wickham Park’s Many Areas

After paying the small admission fee and meeting up in Wickham Park, the three of us decided to start things off in East Asian garden. The white foot bridge, pond, and lion statue are just a few of the many interesting features in this area of the park.

We also made time to enjoy some of the park’s wide open areas. During engagement sessions and weddings, part of my style is to look for subtle or “off the beaten path” aspects to work around. To close things out, we took to the top of the big hill. There’s even a CT park wedding venue there.

Perhaps expectedly, Megan and Robbie opted for a practical CT wedding venue with a big, banging party. Their wedding planning led them to Maneeley’s for a New Year’s Eve wedding night in nearby South Windsor. Just like their engagement session at Wickham Park, their wedding day fit them perfectly as a couple.

Given how big it is, Wickham Park’s garden options make it perfect for engagement sessions, similar to Harkness and Roger Williams Park Botanical Center. If you’re engaged, put it on your list!
