In a galaxy far, far away, it was Amanda, Josh, and their Star Wars wedding day.
Read through this quick post to see how they pulled off an awesome dream wedding with an intergalactic touch.
The Wedding Vendor Team
Here are some of the vendors that Jules and Andrew picked to make their wedding weekend a success:
- Venue: The Venue at Winding Hills (Montgomery, NY)
- Hair and Makeup Stylist: Kisbeauty Bridal
- Bridal Dress Boutique: Ashleyโs Bridal
- Florist: Alice’s Flower Shop
- DJ: On1 Entertainment
I wish I asked who made the lightsabers, but it may very well have been the groom (Josh) himself.
Their Star Wars Wedding Story
First, here’s a video:
So how did this Star Wars wedding come to be? Well, read on, Padawan.
Star Wars IRL
During wedding planning, Amanda and Josh chose me as their wedding photographer. I eventually asked them to describe their wedding day to me in three words. Here’s what they wrote in response: “Classy Star Wars”.
Truth be told, these two are Star Wars lovers and experts. Josh is actually the creator/owner of famous YouTube channel Star Wars IRL.
On his channel, Josh provides this awesome tagline in the About section:
This channel is about escaping this galaxy and entering a new one. One that we all love, that others don’t quite understand. One filled with Jedi, Lightsabers, and Space Battles. Romance, Hope, and Belonging.
We had one last phone call the week before their wedding. I asked how big of a role Star Wars would play on their wedding day. I think it was Amanda who responded on the phone, telling me that it would only be a subtle Star Wars wedding.
It turns out that what this meant was that some of their details would be Star Wars-esque: centerpieces, signage, the guest book, etc. Yes, there were Star Wars details such as the Millenium Falcon and X-wing starfighers here and there, but you kinda had to look for them like Easter eggs.
That is, until the end of the night…
Getting Married on Tatooine
Tatooine might be the most important planet in the Star Wars canon, as it’s home to the Skywalkers. If you recall, it’s also the desert planet where we meet the Hutts and Tusken Raiders in the movies. So, it’s hot.
So was Amanda and Josh’s wedding day. These two, their wedding party members, and family friends were literal troopers in dealing with the heat and humidity.
The scenery was epic, though far from a dessert. Their Hudson Valley wedding venue, The Venue at Winding Hills, was beautifully set up for their nuptials.
The Grand Finale
As a wedding photographer, I’ve witnessed and captured my fair share of surprises and flashmobs. The one that occurred during this Star Wars wedding, however, was probably the most memorable.
It had just downpoured and Amanda and Josh were partying the night away on the dancefloor. Someone grabbed me by the arm and pulled me away from the action, whispering into my ear about a secret for the bride and groom.
Amazingly, it was a Star Wars flashmob. Complete with storm troopers and Jedi. Vader and Chewbacca even showed up. An epic conclusion.
