There’s no shortage of rustic and barn venues in Connecticut. This state has some of southern New England’s best options in this category. One of the more unique places fitting this mold is located right off of I-395. Here are some details on having an Allen Hill Farm wedding.

History of Allen Hill Farm

Allen Hill Farm is a former dairy farm turned tree farm in the village of Allen Hill. Five generations in, co-owner Charles Langevin grew up on the property and retired there after a career in education. The Christmas tree options here are plentiful.

The entire property is about 300 acres, 100 acres of which are used to grow trees. The land does a great job doubling as a venue for Allen Hill Farm wedding ceremonies and receptions. Honestly, it’s probably one of the top barn wedding venues in Connecticut.

Outdoor Ceremony Area

Wedding ceremonies at Allen Hill Tree Farm take place just behind the barn. Here, there’s a large area with a long, relatively short-in-height boulder. Your wedding guests will face the boulder as you two stand in front of it. This is a very unique feature, a natural wedding ceremony altar.

The Barn

Perhaps the focal point of any Allen Hill Farm wedding is The Barn. It’s large, with room to seat about 150 guests for a reception. Channeling a classic New England feel, it’s built with the traditional post and beam method.

With two floors (the upper one being more of a loft, there’s plenty of room inside. What’s especially convenient about Allen Hill Farm’s setup is that the DJ is on the second level. This saves quite a bit of room for seating and partying during your wedding reception.

Other Areas

After your ceremony and dinner, you and your guests can get outside and explore. Allen Hill Farm has lots of areas for this on your wedding day, including the Christmas tree growth areas and a huge field with a fire pit.

Allen Hill Farm Wedding Catering

When having your wedding at this venue, you’ll have to secure a caterer to come on site. Allen Hill Farm does have a kitchen, which helps. B&M Catering (out of Rhode Island) and G Seven Caterers (based in nearby Thompson) are two great options that regularly work at this wedding venue.

Allen Hill Tree Farm does have a small getting ready area adjoined to (but physically separate from) The Barn. In my experience, this space is best for final touches. You and your attendants will probably be more comfortable getting mostly ready off site before arriving for your wedding.
