Mystic Wedding Locations

Things are moving along in your wedding planning and you’ve decided that a Mystic wedding venue is what you two need. You’ve done your reading and know that Mystic is actually a village which straddles Stonington and Groton, so you understand that the area is actually larger than meets the eye.
Well, I’ve got some insight which may help. In addition to being a wedding photographer in the area, my wife and I actually got married in Mystic. So, I was once searching for the perfect Mystic wedding venue like you.
To the general public, Mystic, CT is known as a village with a happening downtown area with restaurants and shops. But it’s also one of the best locations in New England to get married. Where can you have a wedding in the Mystic area?

Three Things That Make Mystic Great for Weddings
Endless rehearsal dinner and brunch options
Mystic, including both downtown as well as the surrounding Greater Mystic area, is filled with restaurants and bars. Therefore, there are many options for rehearsal dinner and morning-after brunch gatherings.
It’s accessible, physically and financially
Both geographically and financially, having a wedding in Mystic CT is accessible. It’s located just a short drive away from I-95. And from a wedding venue standpoint, Mystic has a lot of options covering a pretty wide range of budgets.
It’s simply picturesque
Mystic is just beautiful. Pretty much every location here is picture-worthy. There are a ton of things to do for both your guests and yourselves. Consider getting away either before, during, or after your wedding to take Mystic photos with your wedding photographer (away from your venue).
Downtown Mystic Wedding Venues
First and foremost, people know Mystic for its small-town-downtown charm. This is the area from the famous Mystic River Bascule Bridge all the way to Old Mystic. Here are some of the best places to get married in downtown Mystic.

1. Inn at Mystic

Get yourselves married at the top of a hill, in a mansion, overlooking Mystic. What’s more, the venue is also in the hotel/inn category, making it ideal for destination or weekend celebrations. Full transparency: I love this place because my wife and I got married here. Home of Haley Mansion, Inn at Mystic is truly special as a Mystic wedding venue.
2. Mystic Seaport Museum
With perhaps the best views of the famous Mystic River of any venue, Mystic Seaport Museum is a terrific wedding location. This collective includes The Boat Shed at Lighthouse Point (i.e. the Thomas Oyster Co. building), the Greenmanville Church, and the huge North Lawn. A Mystic Seaport wedding is definitely a great choice.

3. Mystic Yachting Club
Located on the same property as Mystic Shipyard, Mystic Yachting Club has boat-lovers covered. This venue can accommodate indoor and outdoor weddings and is literally on the water (Mystic Harbor). It’s tucked away, too, providing some good privacy and exclusivity. Great service and food are included, too.

4. Mystic Aquarium
Aquatic wildlife lovers look no further. Mystic Aquarium weddings offer a unique way to tie the knot in this area. Located next to Olde Mistick Village and with a big hotel across the street, this venue is as convenient as it is special.
5. Delamar Mystic
A brand new hotel which sits at the location of the old Latitude 41 restaurant, Delamar Mystic is a chic little wedding venue. Perhaps best of all, it’s a Mystic wedding venue that’s located right on the water.

5. The Schooner Argia

Perhaps a bit unconventional, did you know it’s realistic to get married on a boat? Sail Away Argia makes this an attractive option. In this post, you can read all about the story of one such couple. They got ready in Captain’s Mansion, walked around town, had their ceremony on board the Argia, and then had a reception dinner at Oyster Club’s Treehouse. It was awesome, different, and completely Mystic.
Stonington, CT Wedding Venues
Since half of Mystic is located in this town, these Stonington wedding venues deserve strong consideration:
1. Stone Acres Farm

A real working farm that grows vegetables and has animals, Stone Acres Farm is a vast, 60-acre property has room for any guest count. And for plant lovers, it doesn’t get any better than this. There’s also a tented area on this awesome venue as well as a house which has getting ready suites.
2. Stonington Point

A small yet stunning piece of public access land just perfect for your Connecticut elopement, Stonington Point in the Borough offers a 270-degree view of the water. After your elopement, you can explore the rest of the borough and are just minutes from Mystic, New London, Groton, and the casinos. Because the point is publicly accessible, it’s an often-overlooked (and somewhat unconventional) Stonington, CT wedding venue.
3. Saltwater Farm Vineyard
Possibly the epitome of the southeastern Connecticut winery wedding venue, Saltwater Farm Vineyard is just stunning. (It’s sort of reminiscent of Newport Vineyards, which isn’t too far away.)
4. Stonington Vineyards
As if the wine isn’t good enough, Stonington Vineyards offers tons of outdoor space and beautiful views.

Other Mystic Area Wedding Venues
The so-called “greater Mystic area” contains a number of other great venues, too. While they may not be in Mystic proper, they’re definitely worth considering if this area is attractive to you.
1. Branford House (Groton, CT)

Owned and operated by the State of Connecticut, Branford House in Groton is a big, stone mansion located at Avery Point. The building is beautiful as is the huge, sprawling waterfront landscape behind it. Long Island Sound creates the backdrop here and three lighthouses are in view.
2. Eolia Mansion (Waterford, CT)

The younger/smaller sibling to Branford House is Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford. It’s about 25 minutes from Mystic and offers more seclusion, much more room, and sweeping water views.
3. Jonathan Edwards Winery (North Stonington, CT)

A very popular vineyard and wedding venue in North Stonington, CT, Jonathan Edwards is a staple of the southeastern Connecticut portion of the wine trail. It makes a great venue for a wedding.
4. A Private Residence

One of the other great things about a wedding in the Mystic area is the privately-owned real estate down here. Residences for rent in locations like Groton Long Point (pictured), Noank, and Mason’s Island are great options for a backyard wedding.
